Beyond the Basics will review the Orton-Gillingham Approach and the concepts learned in the Classroom Educator Class. In addition, more advanced morphology including Latin and Greek roots, prefixes and suffixes, and accenting rules targeting advanced decoding will be covered. In addition, elements of contextual reading – vocabulary, fluency and reading comprehension – will be incorporated. Participants will be taught how to administer informal assessment measures and design lesson plans. This is a 30-hour course. In conjunction with the Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator Class, this course will satisfy the 60 hours of the coursework requirement at the Associate Level of certification with the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators.
