PRACTICUM PROGRAMS

The Dyslexia Resource offers practicum programs at the Classroom Educator, Associate, and Certified Levels of membership through the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA). More information regarding the levels of membership can be found on the AOGPE’s website at http://www.ortonacademy.org/.

 

Classroom Educator Practicum

Course Dates: October 1, 2021 – May 25, 2022
Registration is Closed

An individual in the Classroom Educator Practicum will be mentored by a Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) to continue refining skills to integrate and apply the knowledge, concepts, and skills learned during the coursework in a classroom setting. The Supervising Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) will observe a 40-60 minute lesson on 5 separate occasions and provide written and verbal feedback as well as ongoing support over the course of one school year. After completion of the practicum, the individual will be qualified to seek certification with The Orton-Gillingham Academy at the Classroom Educator Level. The practicum timeline is from September 1 through May 31.


Application for Associate Practicum

Course Dates: October 1, 2021 – May 24, 2023
Application Period Has Closed

An individual in the Associate Practicum will be mentored by a Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) to continue refining skills to integrate and apply the knowledge, concepts, and skills learned during the coursework in a remedial setting. The Supervising Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) will observe a 40-60 minute lesson on 10 separate occasions and provide written and verbal feedback as well as ongoing support over the course of two years. After completion of the practicum, the individual will be qualified to seek certification with The Orton-Gillingham Academy at the Associate Level. The application period opens September 1 and will be available through September 24.


Certified Practicum

Associate Certification with the Orton-Gillingham Academy is a prerequisite

An individual in the Certified Practicum will be mentored by a Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) to expand his or her depth and breadth of knowledge about dyslexia. The Supervising Fellow (or Fellow-in-Training) will observe a 40-60 minute lesson on 10 separate occasions and provide written and verbal feedback as well as ongoing support over the course of two years. After completion of the practicum, the individual will be qualified to seek certification with The Orton-Gillingham Academy at the Certified Level. The application period opens September 1 and will be available through September 24.
