TUTORING
A partnership with Purpose Built Schools Atlanta to serve public school students
The Dyslexia Resource is in the first year of a three-year partnership with Purpose Built Schools Atlanta to provide direct services to students at Thomasville Heights Elementary School (THES). Part of the Atlanta Public Schools system, THES has been a low performing school for many years and is located in an economically depressed area of Atlanta. The Dyslexia Resource recruited remediation specialists to provide Orton-Gillingham tutoring twice weekly to 99 students who are struggling with reading in first, second, third, and fourth grades.
Our goal is to help Purpose Built Schools Atlanta at Thomasville Heights and create a scalable, replicable model for helping struggling readers.

Additional community partners in this work include:
Hill Learning Center
The Hill Learning Center developed an iPad app that allows our remediation specialists to work with small groups while working at each child’s pace and automatically track progress along the way. The Zeist Foundation provided grant funding to purchase the app and iPads.
Zeist Foundation
The Zeist Foundation also provided grant funding for teachers from THES and Slater Elementary to participate in the University of Georgia’s Graduate Certificate in Dyslexia program. UGA and The Dyslexia Resource are working together to provide OG training and a rich practicum experience for this cohort and planning for an additional group next year.
Georgia State University
Georgia State University provided graduate students in their Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders with clinical experience while helping TDR complete baseline assessments at THES. Georgia State continues to be a partner in evaluating research-based interventions.
