The Reading Zone is open to rising third-grade Schenck School applicants. It is an ideal program for families who want their child to receive Orton-Gillingham instruction in a group setting. The focus of the Reading Zone is on decoding, comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary.
The Reading Zone is a small group, online program. Participants who attend will be placed in groups of no more than five students. Highly skilled and experienced Orton-Gillingham trained instructors will use strategies to build and strengthen reading ability in a nurturing, fun, and small-group setting.
In its second year, the Reading Zone is fun and personable and allows students to thrive in a small group setting.
The Reading Zone meets twice a week for 90 minutes, 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm, September 2020 – April 2022. There are 52 sessions in all. In addition to each 90-minute session, each student will have a 10-minute one-on-one meeting with their instructor at the end of each class. These one-on-one sessions allow the teacher and the student to review work, address specific student questions, and allows the teacher to provide feedback and additional directions or instructions.
